Default nitrous (beginner)

89 lx 5.0 5spd

Well i am looking at getting a nitrous setup sometime until now and summer and i was needing a little bit of information about the specs i should run with in a crate 302 with a few boltons such as cold air intake, cobra intake upper/lower, and shorty headers with an xpipe. ive never dealt with nitrous but always loved the look, feel, and especially sitting at a red light with a blow off spray.(my buddies honda had that and it was a head turner)im not wanting a whole lotta power from spray just enough to be able to pull away in a drag and let my motor do the rest. "dont wanna blow anything or have to do any expensive motor mods" any suggestions? how expensive is it to install?

Nice car! I would probably go with a 75 shot.

Put a good fuel pump in it and spray 150 from a Nitrous Express kit. Prices vary by location. Around here you can get an NX nozzle kit installed for $581 from one of my accounts.

well here i go disagreeing again

i would do 75-100 (it's just a simple jet change to swap out anyways)

check this out in a minute...... https://mustangforums.com/m_639288/tm.htm

but the 75 can knock 1 full second ET , 100 surely will if not more. (i knocked 1 1/2 seconds on an aod LX 'vert 100 shot zex)

i like dry for the simplicity, a little extra safety too (imo) wet guys swear wet though.

my '89 notch w/ 75 dry, 4.10's ,et streets, long tubes and dumped smog and AC went 12.50's at 109 w/ a 5-speed

tires are must if your squirting.

I thought wet was safer...either way a nicely tuned shot will drop that time

Wet is only safer if its injected properly.. i.e. through a nitrous plate, or direct port. Wet has a tendency to puddle in the upper intake manifold and can make a really cool explosion if you get a backfire!

I however will stand by wet kits because it adds the proper amount of fuel WITH the nitrous, instead of relying on your injectors (which could max out if not properly upgraded)

yup agreed 100% and wet is considered more consistent too.

i'm on my 3rd dry kit cuz i really don't bracket race, and i never squirt more than 100 , i usually only squirt 75-80

nitrous is not flammable, it's an oxidizer, so there is no way to backfire on a efi car if your dry. but if you introduce fuel, then you have the possibility of ignition, and the nitrous just enhances that explosion.

it is rare if your doing everything properly, but it can happen

as far as the injectors go, i spray 100 on stock fuel system, 125 imo is pushing it, i like to have a 190 pump w/ the stock injectors due to the age of the existing pump , not it's size.

i personally would never spray more than 125 dry, lots of guys do, but if i plan on that, i'll go 150+ and direct port or lower plate.

That's a very nice car!!! I've allways used wet kits because I could phisically test the fuel delivery as well as the nitrous. It just made me fell better knowing for a fact. Lots of people use dry kits with great success to though. My advise is shop around for the kit you want, keep it 100 shot or less, make sure you use a window switch ( especially with a 5 speed), and get flipswitch burn for the nitrous. You'll love it.
