Longtubes or shorties?
again, just looking for a good answer. i kept hearing horror stories about cobras and Longtubes being a bitch to install.. i went to Summit and they sell Hedman headers / Flowtech that come in 2 pieces on the drivers side and figured theyd be easier to install then complete headers. anyone know? should i go with shorties and a good uncatted xpipe or what? which is better for a blown setup anyway.
i have a 92 5.0 with a vortech with bbk shortubes, my room mate has a 02 gt with a 1.7 kb with jba short tubes, i think shortubes work well with supercharger applications im sure someone will say longtubes, i think its just preference... id go withhigh flow cats instead of straight through i got a better response from the engine with them then without.
im not really worried about cats here, i live in Florida so they don't really care about us polluting and whatnot besides this cobra is going to be changed to a track car only so i wont really need em. - X pipe or H pipe though?
yes long tubes are harder to put in, but worth it. id say 350rwhp and up would be a good time for long tubes. im sure youll get a few people who will tell you long tubes are better no matter what. if you go with shorties, get equal length. i had shorties on my car and made 461rwhp so they can flow pretty well but with the new, larger motor, id like to run long tubes but money currently isnt permitting[:@]
speaking on behalf of thte 97 you have, most 4.6 guys will tell you to stay awayfrom shorties, the hp/$ ratio is not even worth it compared to long tube...but in order to install the headers on the modular motors, either lifting the motor or dropping the k-member is required. Its not a slide in design by no means
