Default Oxide

I don't much about Nitrous Oxide, anyone in the forum can explain as much as they can about how it works, the benefits and CONS? Or can someone send me in the right direction. What system do you recommend. 2000 GT Vert.

nitrous brings extra oxygen into the combustion process so the engine can burn more fuel and therefore make more power. it also cools down the intake charge when it flashes from the liquid to the gas as it leaves the solenoid valve and enters the intake manifold which makes the fuel/air mix denser so more can be drawn into the engine which also makes more power. lower power nitrous kits use only nitrous injected, not a mix of nitrous and fuel and are called "dry" systems. big HP nitrous systems inject both extra fuel and nitrous to make really big amounts of HP. biggest problem with using nitrous is the chance you take running too lean which creates extreme temperatures which can burn the pistons in the engine right up. you also need to have a stronger bottom end in the engine to run large amounts of nitrous or you run the risk of breaking the piston, rods, or crankshaft unless they are forged aluminum and steel rather than cast aluminum and steel. nitrous is usually only injected when the throttle is wide open for the best effect but not all users spray the gas right off the starting line, they wait until 2nd gear or even later down track to hit the spray. one of the other cons of using nitrous is the cost, about $4 a pound and the bottle which holds 10 pounds won't last all that long. it also takes up space in the rear of the vehicle and adds some weight too. it is also illegal to have installed on the car in some states, but I don't know which ones prohibit the use of it on the street.
other people on here like OB and MD can provide you more information.

What shot should I go for? Is the Nitrous express kit on Mustangtuning.com a good kit?

I would not go above 75 HP dry on a stock engine. why don't you go to www.nosnitrous.com and see what these guys have to say, they can explain things lots better than me!

I'm new here. I just installed a 5115 NOS dry kit and will be running 100 shot through it. Only change to my bottom end is a cam shaft. I know several people that are running 150+ through stock bottom end cars and haven't had any problems (yet).
But you are running a 4.6 which is COMPLETELY different from the 5.0s. I say go to www.nosnitrous.com just like roundman recommended. Be sure to do A LOT of research before deciding on a kit. You will thank yourself in the long run.
