vortech users-input needed
since day one with my v1 ive had issues with the intake setup, the filter/maf portion particularly. first it doesnt fit at all in my fender and i had to get creative, but that was nothing. my major gripe has been the idiot placement of the maf and filter. i am having major problems at around 4000 rpms and high at wot involving the maf. its acting like its pegged out. i have an afm powerpipe and make a little over 10 psi. the lightning maf is calibrated correctly, and its brand new ( ive tried 2 of them) and I have tried several different arrangements with the intake (the one that worked perfectly was out of the fender and behind the headlight. generally you need about 6 inches between the filter and the maf, why doesnt vortech do this? im sick of messing around with this damned intake, but im gonna try and fir some tubing between the filter and the maf, and trim it all to fit, i cant have this "pegging" effectanymore its gotta go. anyone else have maf issues or is this old news or worse an isolated incident? thanks guys
i know most people dont have issues, but im mostly looking for those who have. im pretty sure its turbulence at the maf, but if all else fails i will definetly be looking at the tune. ive done some searching and ive seen a couple people having issues with the lightning maf, but they were using it for blow through. i love the blower and all, but the intake is poorly designed in my oppinion. i threw together a setup in an hour that worked perfectly, fit well, and didnt peg the maf but it wouldnt work with the powerpipe
Try rotating the MAF so the sensor is in a different location at a different angle. Time consuming, but could solve the problem. Alot of people have a similar problem with the blow thru MAF's on Procharger applications.
thought about rotating it but its near impossible the way the bracket is. i would have leaks if i tried, that or no bracket period. what seemed to help was blocking direct airflow to the filter. i experimented and the surging/pegging stopped when i moved the filter to behind the headlight with the maf after it. it got worse when i had it behind the foglight and had the foglight removed. its definetly an issue having the filter so close to the maf.
Hmmm? I can't think of anything else besides that. How about modifying the powerpipe to set the MAF further back on it? My powerpipe is 2 pieces. Is yours? Maybe you could move the MAF to where the pieces fit together if it's a 2 piece.
See the rubber connector on my pipe in my sig.

mines a one piece, i had to order some different sized elbows to get it to fit as is. i think i will probably start by making a shield for the filter as that seemed to work very well with my other tests. if that doesnt work im probably gonna hack off a few inches of the power pipe and move the maf further up.
maybe its the fact that your running a lightning maf and not something better. i have a pro-m maf attached right to the filter and i dont have any issues at all. thats with my vortech sc and afm power pipe
