Default X or H?

Yeah.. Got an 04 GT and want to upgrade my mid-pipe. Got a nice hefty christmas bonus and figured I'd treat my car to a little fun stuff. In recent posts, I've been reading people think an X doesn't sound as good on a GT, but sound great on a cobra. The H sounds better on a GT though. What should I get? I'm not too worried about a whopping 2HP difference in performance between the two. If there's a huge performance gap between the two, I'll get the better of the two.

Now, the midpipe has to be catted (emissions). I had another question. How warranty friendly are new midpipes? One guy at the dealership I talked to said I could change out the entire exhaust (including headers) and it not void the warranty. Another man I spoke to on the phone said even putting on just the catback would void it. Should I be worried at all about it?

Now, about the types and installation on them. If I was going X, I was going to go with SLP, but saw I needed O2 harness extenders. Will I need these for any mid pipe I choose? What's a site where I can find different catted H's? I haven't really looked into H pipes as much as X's. I was going to get X because everyone raved about the performance increase. Now I've been reading that there's close to no gap between a new H and X.

Finally, how much would a garage charge to install the midpipe?

IMO, the X sounds better on the 4.6, the H sounds better on the 5.0. You could look at places like Bassani, Mr. Gas, BBK, MAC, etc... for the midpipes. I have only heard good things about the Bassani and BBK X pipes. Also, just install the pipe yourself. It is literally only a few bolts.

X's are usually louder, H's are usually deeper - their's exceptions to every rule though. X's usually give a couple more ponies over H's as well.

well i got two different answers from the same dealership. that's what i don't get. what would a new mid-pipe void on your warranty anyway? what problems could they link it to warranty wise?

There is nothing an aftermarket mid pipe can hurt.

Nanaki.... You live close by, right (I live in Fairfax)

I will tell you this... I had a magnaflow X-pipe and I now have a mac H-pipe... OMFG!!!!

The H-pipe makes it sound like a real muscle car... And still gave me good power... PM me and I'll give you my cell # and you can hear the car....It sounds SICK!!!!

Warranty: Don't go to Tedd Britt whatever you do... ANd unless the mod itself caused the problem they cannot void your warranty... Mid-pipe and catback you're safe, but I think headers would be risking it...

Yes wise person I see. Magnaflow X-pipes sound like crap. Now just add some VT stage 2 cams and your car will really sound like a muscle car.
