Well, here is a bit of a price breakdown
Gears- $150
Install for gears- $200-$600 (I have seriously seen this range in price)
Tuner- $200-$400
Headers- $450
Install for headers- $400-$800
Midpipe- $200
Catback- $200-$1000
CAI- $50-$300
TB- $100-200
Plenum- $100-$220
These are the bolt on mods that most have. This gives you an idea of what you are going to spend.
If you install it yourself, it will be a lot cheaper. I had a friend install my gears, and he charged me $200. So my gears totalled $290 (used gears off ebay). In fact, everything on my car has come off ebay or this forum.
If you do installations yourself, i would do gears and full exhaust. Then i would go full intake (CAI TB and Plenum and dynotune)

thanx man what are the difference between the 4:10s and the 3:73's
thanx man what are the difference between the 4:10s and the 3:73's
So when comparing 4.10s to 3.73s... 4.10s will acelerate faster than 3.73s and will get you into your power band faster, but you will lose a few HP off your top speed in any given gear.
CAI, x-pipe, catback, pulley, diablosport tune and aset of nittos or other drag radialsare usually the basic starting points from what i have seen. Honestly i would stay away from gears if its a daily driver... i had 4:10's in my LT1 and its just too much. I personally will not be goingthe pulley and tune route.. too many trips to the dyno for retunes after more mods have been addedand ive heard some real night mare storiesbetween cobra owners and LS6 drivers. After that i would say clutch and shifter.... then its on to bigger things... i can hear Kenne Bell calling my name in my sleep! HAHA!!! As far as cheap goes you can find CAI for around $200 maybe even check ebay or ur local speed shop for used parts. The FRPP M55 catback is all stainless steal and retails for about $325 and you can put on in your driveway so no intall fees but be careful with the addition of a X-Pipe with the M55 be careful bc things will get VERY VERY loud... someone said on another forum its "killing babies loud" with a O/R X so be careful bc there is a such thing as too loud. I also heard of it on an 03 an this guys neighbors called the cops everyday for a week until he finnally swapped exhaust... but at 325 bucks its the best for the money if you can get a way with it.. other than that the X-pipe will run anywhere from 200- 500+ depending on the brand and if you are required to have cats like i am in Texas. UPR makes good stuff at a nice price... i would check them out... other than that it all depends if you are willing to suck it up and not buy bassani or borla and scout out used parts to help save money in the long run. Hope that helps. Let me know if you have anymore questions i'd be glad to help.

And i wouldn't worry about the top speed at all, you wil never (or should never) be at top speed anyways! Most people worry about highway driving when it comes to gear selection. If you drive the speed limit, or a little above, you still will not be reved to high on the highway. I know that in 5th on the highway doing 65 i am just under or around 2K. with 4:10's i think i would be at 2200. There is a calculator somwhere. If it is your DD i think you still would be comfortable with 4:10's. In my car, and especially since i will be supercharging it, i am happy with my 3:73's. I am also a stick, autos rob you of a bit more power due to inefficiency. if you start getting north of 4:10 i think that would be bad for highway and fuel economy, but give you a hell of a kick in the pants.
As far as exhaust, it is all about character and preference. I prefer something unique and most people aren't willing to spend the money on Bassani. It sounds amazing (which is what everyone will say about their own setup) and is very unique (which everyone CANNOT say). I just got the headers put on to finish it off and it is deep, full and strong. I think a lot of exhausts sound thin and hollow though they might be deep and rumbly. I personally would go with a Borla or Bassani catback, but MAC's sound nice as well, and a lot of people seem to like SLP's. I have never heard SLP's.
For a midpipe there are a couple options- x or h pipe, either catted or not. Depending on here you live may sway your decision on catted or not because of legalities. Mine is a catted X-pipe because i am from New York and might move back there and don't feel like switching it for inspections. TYPICALLY, an x-pipe will sound more NASCAR, race car like while an H-pipe will give you a little old school burble/rumble. An x-pipe SUPPOSEDLY nets you a couple more HP than an H-pipe, but nothing you will be able to really feel. These mostly just change the tone and if it is catted or not.
Last are headers. If you are looking for performance you want to go midlengths or long tubes. Only two companies I know of make a midlength, Bassani and JBA. I know a lot of companies make longtubes, BBK i think is the most popular due to two factors, 1. Price, 2. Fit. Headers are the most critical part of finidng an increase in power from your exhaust. Like i said before, I just had my Bassani Mid's put on and i can definitely feel a difference. Combine that with a tune and your car will feel completely different.
Phew. Hopefully i touched on some things that can help you out. Remember that exhaust is complete preference. I would take some time and listen to some stangs in yor area, ask around and then make a decision. I also firmly believe that you get what you pay for. I lucked out with my exhaust, i think it sounds phenomenol, and so do lots of other people, including the Chevy guys!
