friction modifier

I have a 2000 mustang gt auto and i was wondering what a friction modifier is and if i need one if im installing gears???

its so the limited slip friction disks can grab each other and lock up both tired in a limited slip situation, im not 100% sure but im pretty sure youll need it, if you have Posi/limited slip u need it
