4v on gt block??
i've had my 03 gt since 05 and the same year i installed a vortech v2 with aftercooler and now i want getter flow of the heads....my origional plan was to slap a pair of stage 2 partiot 2v head with stage 2 VT cams.....but a friend of mine says that i could put the 4v heads on instead....is that possible?? and if it is then will i need to modify my s/c setup?? thx trev...
Im actually looking to do this on my 98 GT. It is possible but ur gonna need a new intake manifold, either a wireing harness from a cobra, or i believe u can splice the GT harness to make it work, but i am not quite sure the exact requirements. Theres a few other oddball parts ull need. Its a bit of moeny and work to do. Ive found parts on ebay for a 98 car that did the conversion and they were selling the pieces... ive been looking but i havent found anything else yet. The heads and hardware are so expensive that its almost questionable whether its worth it... id love to do it though... let me know if u get it goin.
I personally think that it is possible but would probably be a project that in the end wouldnt be worth it money wise. I would get ur heads ported and reassembled from foxlake they are better than patriot heads. If you wanted better flowing heads it is probably a waste of ur time because you should be maxed out power wise on the stock block with just that blower setup by itself. I would wait untill u forge the bottom end and then port ur heads and turn up the boost.
ya definitly. i dont think ur gonna be able to push the stock block much more, and going 4v without forged parts is gonna be overkill. And ported 2v heads still dont flow as well as 4v heads that arent ported, so its a lot of money to spend there to, but its a bit easier of a job. How much boost are you running? 8? up it to 10 and u should still be good. i run 10 without an intercooler. and if ur gonna go through all the work to rebuild a motor, look into a 5.4 4v swap. thats what i really want to do. a bit more work, but ull have a more streetable high horsepower car than u would pushing a 4.6... but thats a whole other story. lol.
btw, these questions always make me sad, lol, cause it always reconfirms the thought that im never gonna get my 4v heads lol.

yea i was actually searchin for a new 5.4 modular block and they happen to be about in the 11k price range....so thats not really an option right now....but then again if i sell my other cars it might be an option...then again im only 18 and got plenty of time to play with it right now but if i decide to do the 4v swap ill keep yall posted thx for the info
actually 99% of the time your not gonna get much more hp out the 5.4 than the 4.6. just a bit more torque, the 5.4 swap is much more expensive than the 4v head swap. and it wont make your car any faster really (both with FI) if your going n./a then for sure 5.4, but if not its more of a being able to say you have a 5.4 than anything else (short of have some pro street setup or something)
ya, but its easier to make the power with a larger cubic inch, u dont have to push the motor as much. i mean, the lightning(sohc) makes the same power as the cobra(dohc)... and it makes more torque. if u get dohc 5.4 then u have like a gt500 and make an easy 475-500 very safely...
howabout just soing a cobra swap... just do the whole motor, itll be a lot simpler than either. Im looking into that now actually... i seem to be leaking antifreeze and if its coming from a head gasket... i might just pull the motor and look for a cobra... but we shall see.
