my tailpipe on my 89 2.3L mustang (seen in the picture below)was in bad condition when i got it, and i find its only getting more rust. i know i can buy chrome exhaust tips, but i dont think that would go too well on a 2.3L really [:'(] is there any way to repair it? (sand it down and paint maybe?) any suggestions on this would be greatly appreciated

Is it only transportation from A-B?
Most likely if you bought that.
Wait for it to fall off and slap on a new muffler/tailpipe

It's just how things work

 

cut off enough tip that u cant see it from behind the car

 

if it really bothers you, you could always cut it at the spot where its rusted and buy a tail pipe extention from your auto part store.

 

Or if you are really on a tight budget you could hit the junkyard and see if you can find one in a little better shape. Typically about $30-$40 all the way from the manifold I think.
