Flowmaster not loud enough, California!
Hey Fellas! Thanks for your time. Here's the issue. I have an 2004 GT bone stock with flowmaster 40 mufflers. They were loud and sounded great for the first month. Now, i barely notice them. I want to know what i can do to get a more aggressive, louder sound without worrying about my state(California) laws. I am willing to bend the rules a little if someone can give me some ideas. Thanks again!

I live in Cali as well and I say F*** CHP!!! Run an O/R X if you want LOUD. You could also get a catted X. It will be louder then stock but quieter then an O/R X. Also get new mufflers if you want. Are ur Flows regular 40's or Super 40's? I have the Super 44's which are pretty much the same as the Super 40's but a little more aggressive sounding.

I have the regular 40's. I'm having trouble finding a shop that would do the exhuast for me. I live Temecula and all the shops here tell me that they wont touch anything off road and illegal.

If you're talking about installing a midpipe, then I have heard and read they aren't that hard to install yourself. There is no welding or special tools needed. And if you did go with one, I'd recommend a catted pipe for California. Specifically, if you're looking for a more aggressive tone, go with an h-pipe over an x-pipe. An x-pipe is more raspy, though it has sometimes been found to have just slightly better performance in higher RPMs from an h-pipe (surely not noticeable on a stock engine).
But either way you may have to switch back in your stock pipe for emissions testing. Especially if they do a visual inspection and see you have either no cats or 2 cats when stock you have 4 or 6 cats. Not all states (or even counties) do a visual inspection unless you fail the test. You may want to send your emissions place an email about this. I live in Washington, which kind of follow California's CARB procedures, and they said they won't visually inspect unless I did not pass emissions.
Here's a quick little installation guide to give you an idea:

that's my same problem up here in Sac. It is an easy install though. Just jack the front of the car WAY UP in the air and it's a total of 8 nuts and unscrewing the O2 sensors. Get MILs too unless you have a tuner cuz you should be able to turn it off with the tuner

Im in Cali too but my local exhaust shop was willing to do the install for cash. Up here in nor cal we got a couple real good places...the place I go to truly does full custom exhaust from headers back.
