Supercharger tuning

I would sell the Predetor tuner and put the money towards the dyno tune, you'll thank yourself later.

Not to Hi-jack but 92BOOSTED.... I F-K'in love your car.
I bought my S281 n/a in the fall of 01, and bought it to supercharge it. (The S281sc's had that sh!tty M90 Eaton roots blower, and I wanted a real blower on it) At the time the only twin screw blower avalible for it was the Saleen series 5, and at the time, Saleen wanted 7k for it. So I did an intercooled Procharger. I had a 3 toggle custom chip burned for me by Johnson motorsports. That was going to be my tune. We put the blower in, and proceeded with the custom chip tune. With the custom chip, the car would run for about 20 mins before the check engine light came on, soon followed by stalling. We started looking at a lot of things, and I thought that the placement of the MAS might have been causing it. The MAS position with the installed kit was just past an 'elbow' in the piping, potentially giving the MAS a bad read of airflow. I tried a univer, and that made it worse. I tried having Johnson motorsports re-burn the chip a few different ways. No help. What I ended up doing was getting a MAF tuner, a custom box that let me physically adjust the a/f ratio on the fly. (This was the predacessor to the hand held tuners) -Bamm, I got the tune right, and the car could then be very finely adjusted and tuned. I was able to squeeze out quite a few horses to the rear wheels (438), still keeping the tune plenty safe.
My whole point here is that a custom chip with a 'correct tune' often times doesn't work, and even though it works for some other guy with a similar set up, it might not work for you. Chips are a gamble without having a way to do custom adjusting. Time and time again, I have seen folks get a 'correct' chip burned, with no luck at all. IMO, stay away from a chip tune done by info only and not concrete dyno #'s. One other point is that a lot of people buy a pre done chip, put it in their ride, and it works ok, and they leave it be. Even though the chip works fine, it is very possible that more gains are avalible, getting more specific with the tune. Minor tweaks always seem to be necessary for maximum efficiency.

birdieman is right. i've seen a shop tune 2 cars with the same setup. both 05s getting blowers. they'll try the second one after getting the first car just right, they'll use it's tune on the second and it would be waaaaaaaaay off. get it dyno tuned or don't expect to drive your car very much.
