New exhaust system?
you should be fine changing the exhaust. I have seen heads intake and exhaust work just fine. Now when the cam was changed things started to happen the cam is self would have been fine but with the head change and cam change it go strange. The cam was ground for a S/D car by Jay but it still could not hang with the head change along with it. But not all the car are the same either.
to help answer your question, my car has the SD engine and have a FULL exhaust, as in long tube headers, X pipe and flowmaster system. I also have a short ram intake, and the car runs perfectly fine. I was also told but do not know for sure that it has a cam. Not sure if its true, but I have heard you can put a cam in but with a very small amount of added lift. If you aren't actually worried about performance then there are no issues in having the SD engine
Thanks for the replies everyone. Im going to go with exhaust for now and change to MAF later on if i continue to mod. Im happy with the cam I have now... since the car came off march of 87 it has a bit more 'aggressive' cam which it is maped to already.
Im hoping the exhaust will free up a little more power. Even 5 horse or so along with the added sound would be nice. I ran a 14.62 in the quarter 2 summers ago with no mods other than advanced timing to 12 deg. so im hoping i can do even better once the exhaust is freed up a bit.
