Default High Octane on Nitrous

While running my car on just motor, i need 93 octane or it wont run right, so if i also run nitrous would i need a higher octane for it to be efficient? On just about any shot, its at a 100 shot and it runs fine, but would i be better of with say 100 octane or 110 or what? Lets say i went up to a 250 shot, what would be the best?

What year is your car?

If you have a 99+ GT and you can't run anything but 93 and you haven't adjusted your timing over stock, you need to get your car running right.

Higher octane would only benefit you if you had your car tuned to that specific octane level.

In that situation it would be best to call a tow truck...

Dan said it in his post, if it hasnt been tweaked and it doesnt run correctly on 93, then somthing isnt right to begin with. If your running a 100 shot or above I would recommend you get the car on a Dyno anyway.

i have a 86 GT and its not anywhere near stock the car is built strrong and handles nitrous like its nothing, in other words no tow truck is ever gunna get called, blowing up a motor on nitrous is a myth if you know how to use it, i ran my 250 shot twice and once was on pump 93 with octane booster and it worked really good.. the second time it was on just pump 93 and i had pre-ignitoin all the way down the track.. this is why i was asking the question cuz it ran fine with the higher octane.. the car is set up for a 100 shot using just premium gas and it works like a champ, i just wanted to be able to spray bigger cuz 100 isnt enough

While I am sure it did handle the 250 shot a couple of times, I would question how long it will live under that high of a shot unless you have forged internals and go about spraying it the right way. Nitrous is all about the tune, however in situations where you intend to run alot of spray (150 and up) a higher octane fuel is a very good idea. When an engine is injected with nitrous the combustion pressure goes up a tremendous amount, when this happens you are more likley to get detonation. A higher octane will help prevent this condition. You will also need to pull out more timing and go to a way colder plug, in fact the plug might be so cold that it will foul out when you are not going WOT, this means you will be switching plugs alot. I agree that nitrous is safe if used correctly, it is however very unforgiving.

my plugs are two heat ranges colder then stock, its the coldest plug that autolight offers, also the gap is set a lot shorter and it drilled down a little bit cuz if too much nitrous comes in, it can blow the spark out, my internals are forged and all that junk, and i have plenty of safetys put in place, i dont spray before 3K rpm, i have 4* initial timing taken out and then i have a msd box that pulls more timing out when i actually do spray, the car is safe and prob wont blow up, its a plate kit that sprays fuel along with nitrous also and i also have a out of tank 255 Vortech fuel pump thatll pump out any amount of fuel that ill need, so im not worried about there being enough fuel, im jsut worried that the octane will be too low and not burn all of the nitrous and then the bad stuff happens..... as far as a tune goes, its got a very very basic tune, no time on a dyno or anything like that, so thats another thing i am kinda worried about, its not perfected its kinda like a trial and error type of deal
