Long tubes are certainly more difficult to install than shorties, but are much better performance wise. BBK is a good choice for those, I had a pair of BBK long tubes on my 89 for 10 years, and they went on easier than other long tubes I've done.
Unless you feel like removing steering linkage and unbolting and slightly lifting the motor among other things, unequal shorty headers are the way to go. Of course equal length is better performance, and long tubes are the best for performance but as you step up it gets progressively harder to install.
