what does changing your gears do to the way the car drives? how does it differ by size?

Changing your gears to a steeper gear (3.73, 3.90, 4.10, etc) will get you a better acceleration. The steeper the gear the more of a kick in the deat youll get. I would suggest 4.10's

its not really something that you want to take on yourself, if not shimmed correct they will prematurlly wear out, and all bad stuff like that,

as for gas milage, i dont have gears but from what it seems like, it lowers your milage, but not that much, 3 - 4 mpg on the highway with 410's. some one with 410's could give you better information.

cant wait till i get gears

It's definately not a task for someone who's modding experience includes: blinker fluid changes, new wiper blades, and a CAI. Also, installation could run you upwards of $500. 4.10 gearing is about a 1-2 mpg difference on highway driving and if you dont floor it from every stop sign you shouldnt see that much of a change in city driving.

4.10 or bust. you're not going to get any HP gain, but hot damn. you're gonna love that acceleration. plants you back in the seat.

so when you get better acceleration does it take it away from the top speed of the car or where does it come from? the reason I asked how hard it is to change is because I have never had a rear axel befor. I have only done engine work on rear wheel drive cars and my other cars have been ricers that I have moded because I have this crappy thing called snow and ice that sucks to drive on.

sure, you'll lose some top speed, but nothing you're going to notice. unless you play on going like 150mph all the time or something.

I've got the "optional" 3.27s in my 97 gt. I don't wanna loose too much mpg, so would 3.73s be a good balance of kick and some level of economy? And yeah who plans on going 150mph all the time. If so, go to europe, buy a bmw and have funw ith the autobahn.
