Turbo/Supercharger
if you added a turbo to your mustang, would you lose that nice growl it always gives off from the exhaust?</P>
cuz in most videos im seeing of turbos they sound all whiney like, if that is the case do superchargers make that whine too?</P>
supercharger whine is more annoying, but quieter. turbo is kinda loud, but to me it just sounds too pimp. exhaust shouldnt lose "growl", but at higher rpms it will be quieter than the turbo</P>
egh</P>
how the hell do you know so much? arnt you like 15 tho too? seen you answer lots of posts with replies n such that i guess make sense (dont know much so its all "jibbah jabbah") get into it at a very young age? i prolly shouldve too then i wouldnt be askin too many stupid questions but theres lots of room to learn im only 18</P>
Turbos do quet the exhaust a bit. All the blades from the compressor deflect the sound waves.
There usually isn't a whine like a blower, but rathre a woosh of the air...sounds bad ***.

I agree with Jeep45238, I have turbos on my mustang, and my exhaust went from verocious with 2 chamber flowmasters and a cam to a quiet sounding stocker mustang. I now have dynomax ultra flows. If the exhaust is cut off at the downpipes, then its loud as a race car, but with both 2 chamber flows and dynomax, the exhaust is quiet. Its amazing how quiet the exhaust gets with turbos. The turbos are like mufflers themselves and quiet the sound down. The turbos at idle do not make any sound. The sound comes when boost is gained and if you have a blow off valve. If no blow off valve then the turbos make a back spin sound. When boost is generated, it sounds like aextreme suction of air and creates a jetengine sound. This is cause the turbines spin up to 100,000 RPM's. Turbos run offexhaust so lots of heat isinvolved and superchargers run off a crankshaft so not much heat.<IMG src=smileys/smiley3.gif border="0"> <edited><editID>TwinTurboCobra</editID><editDate>37996.0543634259</editDate></edited>
Which is why turbos make so much more power. Approximately 1/3 of all power an engine produces goes to the crank, another 1/3 out of the exhaust.....using the exhaust does create a restriction, but it only uses about 5% of overall power compared to the 30+% on a blower.
That...and you'll be gettin an assload more torque than you will with a blower.
