i foudn this on ebay about 295 total with shipping for bbk shorty headers. i dont have the money for long or midlenth so 300 is about the max. im going for a better sound, however an increase in hp and torque is always an added bonus. if i put these on my 02'gt 5 speed, with cold air intake, and flowmaster exhaust, what hp gains would i see? this guy is sayin 20 im thinkin he's full of crap. also very importantly..will i hear the difference?

I just got my car back today from having an aluminum driveshaft installed and I had the x pipe and headers payed for so i decided to have the guys at the speed shop install em for me since my car was allready temporarily out of commission. The exhuast components are as listed in my sig. A Borla catback and x pipe were stock on my car but the headers were stock and it was relatively quiet. So like I said, today was the first time that I had started up my car in 3 days and I was completely shocked with how different it sounded. It was significantly louder on start up, deeper and more throaty on idle and very loud (compered to stock) when I get on it. Oh, and also, I can feel a HP increase (spun the tires all the way through second gear and chirped hard into third)
I honestly dont know if its the headers or the x pipe thats giving me all the vollume and hp but I do notice a huge difference. Obviously shortie headers dont give as much HP as mids or longs but combined with the catback I would say at least 10 hp and 20 hp at the most.
I payed for a bassani catback but it wouldnt fit because of the saleen body kit (borla desgnied one special for saleen), so what I plan on doing is cutting the old mufflers out and welding up new ones. I cant wait!

Yes, the X or H pipe definitely makes the most difference in overall sound enhancement and power gain. Shorty headers just sweeten the sound and power sensation that much more. As far as off road midpipes, no go if you have to pass any kind of an emissions test for inspection. Can not possibly pass that test "legally" with off road pipes. Find a shop willing to basically sell you your inspection sticker for a price and you are home free. That shop stands to lose alot if they are found out and can be fined very heavily. With a tail pipe sniffer, forget ever pasing that test. Some play the game of switching their off road pipes back to stock just for the test and switch back again afterwards. Sounds like a big PITA to me!
$295 with shipping isn't too bad. Going rate in most speed sites is $299 for the chromed BBK version plus shipping. I have heard the shorties can be really nasty to install sometimes. Long tubes are great for power increases but you essentially have to rebuild your entire exhaust system after them (at the very least 1/2 your system) plus I also don't think you can pass emissions with long tubes. Good stuff for power though. I used to automatically install long tubes on all my cars. Let the engines breathe really well, increased horsepower substantially and gave the engine a much longer life span. Things are a lot tougher today depending on the region of the country you're from. NYS is a SOB to get anything passed without some sort of a hassle. Good luck with your ride!
