Might be purchasing some BBK Shorty headers and was wondering about how much would be a good price to pay for a muffler shop to install them. I called and ask them and they said about $150 ($50/hour). Does this seem a little high to anyone else? I find it kind of hard to believe that a person who does this stuff all day would take 3 hours to install some shorty headers. However I think it might have something to do with the fact that I didn't order the headers from them....

It's a major PITA to get to the stock headers and 50/hr isn't bad depending on where you live. Headers are the most expensive install of the whole exhaust.

Thats a good price. It will take more than 3 hours though.

Three hours? Wow! That is amazing. I bet it will take atleast 5 to 6 hours. And that is if they know Mustangs! If you can get this job done for anything less than $400, your lucky. I paid $750 labor to have long Tubes installed.

Of course long tubes are a harder install. There was some chassis modification involved. That is why I paid $750. It was a 10 or 12 hour install. As far as shorties, it is still time consuming. The starter has to be removed and all work is done in very tight places. Turning bolts is a slow and tedious pain in the butt. And that is with the car on a high lift.

If you can get some person who has no idea what they are going up against to install shorty headers on your Stang for $150, GO FOR IT!!!. You will be getting over like a fat rat!

It doesn't matter if it takes three hours or not. The shop probably works on a flat rate systems. Headers are probably estimated at three hours. Like at my shop. An oil change is 0.3 hours but it takes half an hour to do. It's just a flat rate program. But $50 an hour at a shop is a great deal. Dealerships are like $75 to $90 an hour. And I know a few performance shops that are over $100 for every flat rate hour.

I guess that sounds reasonable when you consider that headers are harder than the rest of the exhaust... However the same shop wanted to charge me 100-150 just to install my SLP Cat-back

If i had a place willing to install a set of bbk shorties for 150 i would jump on it with out thinking.

nail them down on that price because they will end up regrating it.
