Brakes and Suspension need upgrades badly
Just got my 2007 Mustang GT and I need to do something about the braking and handling pretty bad. The handling isn't too bad, but the ABS activates in my oppinion really easily. Do the stock tires just really suck, do I need to let the brakes break-in more, or do I just need to look at upgrading the brakes asap? I also want to tighten up the handling on the car, but I don't want it to ride too stiff. What suspension systems should I be looking at?
First off, I'd like to suggest that you use the SEARCH function on the forums. There are a lot of past posts that cover these questions. Now, down to business:
The stock tires are actually very good, as far as OEM tires go. If you want something better, try looking at the BF Goodrich KDW-2, Nitto 555, and Goodyear Eagle F1-GS3.
Brake upgrades: I would start with a good set of performance pads, such as the Hawk. If that isn't good enough, then get some braided stainless lines. If THAT isn't good enough, look for an aftermarket kit with larger diameter discs. You can get such kits from Baer, Roush, and Wilwood (and maybe others?). Be aware that a serious brake upgrade with new calipers and rotors is going to be expensive.
Suspension: The basics you should should definatley do if you want serious handling are the rear lower control arms, rear sway bar, panhard bar, and panhard bar brace. If you are OK with lowering your car, then a set of performance-oriented shocks and lowering springs would be a good choice too. Read this recent thread about suspension upgrades:
