lca's causing a poping/clunking noise

RE: lca's causing a poping/clunking noise
My LCA's were clunking too, then caused a very loud and obnoxious squeaking noise. I greased the polyutethane bushing on the control arm and it all stopped. And I continue greasing them every once in a while.

Would the same theory work if the clunking noise was coming from the front suspension? I recently lowered my car with the Eibach pro kit and 2 weeks later, the clunking noise started. I came back from the shop yesterday and they told me there was nothing wrong with the install. They also mentioned that Ford had a technical service bulletin on this problem. Does anyone know how to find such information???

RE: lca's causing a poping/clunking noise
Most of the aftermarket LCA's seem to have the torque spec at between 85-100 foot pounds on the axle side and 90-110 at the chassis side. I split the difference at 95 ft lbs on all 4 bolts under the full weight of the car which seems to be fine. If anybody knows better, do tell.

What is the recommeded torque spec's on the LCA?. From Ford, they recommend 129 ftlbs and that seems a bit on the tight side.

Torque box is just the control arm mounting point on the chassis side. The point was made that an improper install could pull or damage the mounting point.
Measuring pinion angle is easy. You need an angle finder from Lowe or Home depot. There is tons of info on how to do this on this forum and all over the internet.
BTW, my issue is solved. My LCA's were way under torqued from the shop that did the install. I tightned all 4 bolts to 90 foot pounds and everything is good to go. As one could imagine, the pops and clunks going over bumps are a thing of the past.

RE: lca's causing a poping/clunking noise
If anyone has clunking noises when shifting try adjusting the pinion angle in small increments and test drive the car each time. You can't just set it at -2 degrees and think you're good to go. Not all cars are the same. By the way i think mines at -2
I'm talking about lowered vehicles of course.

RE: lca's causing a poping/clunking noise
When I installed all my BMR stuff I torqued down to OEM specs. About a week later my passenger side LCA started clunking. I went back on the lift at full weight and re-torqued everything back to OEM. Almost all the bolts had loosened up in 1 week. I was going to check everything anyway, but that LCA beat me to it. Everything is at OEM spec now and no problems in the last 6 months.

RE: lca's causing a poping/clunking noise
If I could do it all over again, I'd blue loctite every single bolt I touched during the initial install. If I did that the first time around, I would have saved hours chasing down clunks from the UCA, LCA's and the panhard bar which lost their torque setting. If anybody reads this, take my advice......use blue loctite and a good quality torque wrench.
