Hi v8piolt,

Your car will look stupid with these wheels and tires on it and they will messup the suspension geometry. There are basically only two sizes that will work for the S1987GTwith a 17"wheel, a 235/55x17 or a 255/50x17 on a 17"x8" or 17"x9" wheel. The reason is the tire height needs to be 27" tall give or take 0.2" or so or the car looks goofy and the computer will be mixed up.

If you want to go wider you need to go to an 18" or larger wheel. In 18" wheels there are many tires that you can use but the most common 18" sizes are 255/45x18,275/40x18and 285/40x18 on 9"-10" wide wheels.

HTH!

I runa 295/45/18-18x10's on the rear and the speedo is acurate.I thought it would be off but even the dealership checked out and said it was good.

Hi Poco,

Unless you have a hand held tuner or your car was dyno tuned and the tunercorrected fortire revolutions your speedo isoff and your dealer isnot very particular. A 295/45x18 turns 734 times per mile and the stock 27 tall ties ture 770 times per mile. Based on this set of facts your speedo is off at least 5%possibly more depending on what wheels the car was shipped with. What is an Nitto E-555 tire?

HTH!

Hi v8pilot,

To do what task? For a N/Astreet car with a cornering focus and damn the ride? 255/45x18 or 285/40x18 tires on 18"x9.0-9.5" rims with the right offset that allows the wheels to stay inside the wheel wells. I've always prefered a car with a little bit less wide tire than migh be considered optimum for the power of the car so you can use throttle a bit more liberally to make the car turn. I've run the stockwheels and tires while optimizing and playing with the various suspension options out there and you can have a VERY funt to drive car that rides well on 17" or 18" wheels and tires.Currently I'm running275/40x18 BFG g-Force KD's all aroundand while the grip level differences arehuge thestickier tiresare really not as much fun to drive on as the skinnier tires. I'm torn between the fun of skinny tires and the pure brutalgripof the wider tires. But if you are after pure grip the ideal size is a 285/40x18 on a18"x10" wheel IF you can find the offset that meetsyour needs as outlinedbelow. The problem is that there are very fewhigh grip tires in this sizebut plenty of 275/40x18's which are 0.1"-0.2" or slightly shorter than the ideal 27"+ tall tires. The best of the dryperformance tiresin a size thatis appropriate for the car in a 275/40x18 are BFG g-Force T/A KD, GoodyearGS D3,Bridgestone RE050A Pole Position, Michelin PilotSport 2, Dunlop Sport Maxx.

Anywheels you chooseshould have enough offset and aspoke designedto clear a BBK (Big Brake Kit), if you have ANY thoughof installing a BBK down the road. Also if you are looking at keeping your frontalignment aggressiveon a set of Sportsprings that do not lower the car more than an inch you need to be sure that the inside wheel and sidewalls will stay clear of a strut that is modified with Steeda's billet strut camber plate system or you will not be able to crank in enough negative camber to keep the front tires happy while goingaroundcorners. A set of Eibach/SPC camber bolts even with Steeda HDCamber Adjustable Strut BearingMounts are not enough to get you where you want to go so you have to keep the clearance in mind if cornering is your thing.
