Mustangs(S197) in the Snow
I'm consideringpurchasing a Roush stage 1 mustang GT, however I'm very concerned about ride handling in the winter/snow. The carhas a front chin spoiler and is sitting on dubs. I understand that traction control is standard for mustangs now?...will this help significantly? Alsothe car has chrome rims, does anyone recommend that I change the rims in the winter to prevent them from rusting?

Get another car for the snow
Actually if you aren't stupid it isn't too bad. Traction control just stops excessive spin but isn't going to keep you on the road too much better. If you'll be driving in snow a lot with something that low, it might not be wonderful.
As for the chrome rims, salt will eat them alive, get winter rims and some snow tires and you shouldn't have a problem getting around.

The Stang is absolutely about as close to the worst vehicle in snow as you can get. If you manage to make it thru a winter unscathed you'll be fortunate. Too little clearance, too much torque, too wide a tire....

I have driven safely in the snow with my mods in sig.... I did have snow tires though (Hankook Icebears 235/55-17s). Just don't drive too aggressively. I had a winter beater, but my winter beater died so I had to drive the stangmost of last winter. That included more than a fewsnowy situations, and my baby is still in one piece and I am still alive. Just be careful, don't punch it, and you will be fine.
But I would still recommend a winter beater to drive in the snow.

I've also survived 2 heavy winters now in the stang and all is well. The first year was with the manual, the second with an auto. If you learn to take off in second gear, you'll minimize the spin you get. The nice thing about the auto trans in the S197 is that if you manually put it into 2nd, then it starts in 2nd (same for 3rd), so you can start off in a higher gear in the auto also.
Handling is not great, but as said above, just don't be stupid about it and you'll be fine. I haven't used any snow tires yet, but I think that's a good recommendation also.

I got caught in a nasty snow storm on Vail Pass,Colorado.I had the 18" KDWS all season tires on the car.It handled that very well.I took my time and had no traction issues. The grade coming up westbound is around 6%,going down was worse.
As mention before, take your time.I'd rather drive my AWD Freestyle when it gets this bad like it did last year.My Mustang was parked for three months and six blizzrads.
