Konis or tokico?
Koni does makes struts for this car. Why is everyone all hung up on this other brand? Is there something I don't know? I had Koni's on my last car and loved them.
So what's the deal??

These are two of the newest threads on this subject for you to read up on. I lean twords Koni, between the two I believe its a better product. My arguements are in these threads but personally the only company that makes a proper damper is bilstein. The problem with bilstein is making a adjustable monotube damper ends up being very expsensive.

I believe the reasons why everybody raves about the D-specs are: 1) they are adjustable and have been the only adjustable dampers for the S197 platform (at a reasonable price) for quite some time; 2) they have received good reviews from magazines and many suspension gurus on this forum and others; 3) they are basking in their own sunlight - meaning its sort of a self perpetuating thing, the more people hear about them, the more purchases, the more talk, on and on.
Speaking of my own experience I am pretty impressed with the combo Eibach Pro and D-spec I installed. I like the adjustability, I have been able to make the car into a pretty neutral handler. In testing on a skid pad, stock I would have some push with the front end loosing traction first. Now I can get it pretty neutral so both ends are loosing traction at about the same time (the first still gives way but its very predictable and easy to match with the throttle). High speed corners are very nice, real smooth and confidence inspiring. The ride is more stiff though, I feel bumps more, I am going to try different combinations of adjustment once the weather is a little nicer. I say all of this butthen again my only frame of reference is the stock setup so take it with a grain of salt.
Speaking of adjustability - I was not aware that Koni made an adjustable model for the S197...what is the part number and the cost? I did a little searching but couldn't find them. Koni does have the great reputation and I'm sure they would be just fine.

While I have not tried the D-spec's for the S-197's, I personally will never buy a set of Tokico's again. I placed a set on my Supra, and in 3 months of daily driving, they were shot to the point that the housings were leaking, and they were about as stiff as a wet papertowel. I know the install was good (Did it myself), and they did not see a single day at the track.
I ended up replacing them with a set of Koni's and they outlasted the car, and I loved every mile with them.
Just my epxerience, so take it for what it's worth.

I've been driving the Dspecs for about 2 years with arounda hundred hoursof track time on many road courses. They were great for daily driving and I can't complain about them in combination with the Steeda springs I have been running on any ciruit I have tried.
Love Koni and Bilstein (and will continue to run them on other cars) as well but Tokico did a fantastic job getting these out with top quality for the S197 before everyone else and they deserve to bask in the success of their product.
