lca choices????
ORIGINAL: wicked stang
I dont know very much at all about these suspensions but I know that most gt500 owners switch out their lca's. My father has a gt500 thats stock. i follow the gt500 forums very closely and have driven my fathers car many times and the gt500's have really bad wheel hop problems. i was driving the gt500 once and it wheel hopped so bad that i thought something actually broke. gt500 owners usually switch out the lca's which helps very much and uca's if they still have a little bit of a problem. they usually switch to the bmr or steeda stuff or any major brands. So basically im sayin that you might as well switch to a better lca, especially at the power level you have.

Those GT500 owners are just ignorant, lazy or both! The GT500 has crappy damper rates just like the S197GT it is based on and just like the S197GT you need to solve more than one problem to get the GT500's rear-end to work reasonably smoothly. The GT500 is a heavy, high-powered live axle car and you will never get it to act or ride like a light front drive carwith 125bhp and IRS on skinny tires so get used to it.
That said with the right suspensoin and tiresinstalled you can go a long way to improving the GT500's rear axle behavior with a few simple chassis upgrades. Just have your dad leave those GT500 LCA's in place and install a Steeda Adjustable Comp/Street UCA/UCA mount kit along with a set of Tokico D-Specs for a smooth ride, great handlingor great drag strip adjustability of weight transfer or a set of Koni Sport dampers for a road course focus and a slightly harsher rideand be done with it.
Here is the truth, ALL of the aftermarket LCA's using poly bushings make the car harder/harsher riding and noticably noisier in exchange for improved rear axle control andreduced axle-hop caused by soft bushings which allow excessive axle movement causingaxle wind-up and release. By using afirmer UCA bushingwithimproved UCA geometry with a longer length armyou can avoid virtually all wheel hop caused by axle wind-up. UCA's are the dominant control arm controlling wheel hop. This is not to say that all wheel hop will be goneas there is still the potential foroscillations from the tires as they grip and release their energy into the chassis which no suspension part can resolve, that is an issue of tiresracing surface and driving skill.
