Staggered wheels handling
Will adding staggered wheels/tires specifically 255/45/18 in the front and 285/40/18 in the rear have a negative effect on the handling aspects of the car beyond just driving in a straight line? Will it corner worse with the wider tires in the rear?
It will effect it some, but some adjustments on the suspension can help compensate it.
Ill leave it up to the guru's to answer fully tho.
I loved the way mine was handling with the new wheels/suspension on the road course this year. I could tell it was much quicker.

You have to think of it this way. You have wider tires on that back then the front, hence you will have more grip in the rear then the front. The car is going to push in the corners with no adjustments made to the suspension. If you aren't tracking or autocrossing the car you really won't find this issue so there is no reason to adjust your setup.
If you do track the car, you are going to want to put even sized tires on all 4 corners. You can adjust around the staggered tires with different sway bars in the front end and stiffer front dampers but it is a setup that you are forced to work around instead of just avoiding it all together by putting even sized rubber on all four corners.
Ultimatly you are over compinsating tightening up the front end so much so that you can get the rear end to rotate around. Staggered tires will work for mid-engine cars or a really light car with just an ungodly amount of power but not our cars.

Remember that guy who just totaled his stang? HE was running staggered wheels with over 20mm difference in tire size and over corrected and bam. Mustang went bye bye. I've been lovin my 9.5 on all 4 corners. Been handling like a pro even before I started workin the suspension.

I was considering going 255/40/18 up front; 275/40/18 rear but went 275/40/18 all around on my 18 x 9.5 wheels. I'm glad I did. It looks mean and I can still rotate front to rear with the directional tires.
What wheels are you running? Stock 8.5's will only accept up to 255's safely.

Right now I'm running the stock 18s but will change wheels with tire size. 275/40's all around may just be the way to goI like the look on your car and tire rotation is an important consideration along with handling.
Has CrazyAL posted on here since last year? Where is he....he is greatly missed on the forum....He mentioned via PM's last year that if I was in town near him he would install all of the suspension mods and one piece DS for me....well I am ready for said mods to be installed...LOL.......... J
Oh and to Stoenr you are right about that...they are serious track guys except for CrazyAl but he is the suspension guru along with RF, Sam, and F1Fan....IMO and no particular order
I am sure one of them will help give opinions soon
