best snow tires?

I'm gonna buy some wintery rear tires here soon. My stock rears are worn out. Everytime it rains I can feel the car begin to hydroplane over 60mph. Scary as hell. Last winter here in STL was nasty. I was driving in heavy falling snow at 30mph in 4th gear. Just luggin it when it STILL spun out and sent me across all 4 lanes. I regained control and kept cruisin. lol. Whats worse is that i wasnt touching the gas. Just letting it pull itself. That was probably half the problem.

I put some Michelin X-Ice on last winter and they worked great. Tire Rack shipped to my door and at 2/3rds the cost of buying them here in Canada. You guys down south should consider yourselves lucky that you can get wheels and tires for such good prices.
Our cars are no different than driving a 2WD pick-up truck in the winter. I actually feel more in control of the stang than the last truck i owned

Ok mate take it from a fellow Alaskan, quit being cheep bust out 1k ad buy a set of Blizzak directional tires put 2-4 70 lb sand bags in the trunk and call it a day lol. I am from northern MN and now I live in Fairbanks and I owned a Honda CRX lowered in MN with that combo, as well as my mom drives a lowered Maverick set up the same way (aka baby Mustang) and do just fine. I traded a lowered cobalt in on my 09 Stang that I drove 3 winters in Fairbanks AK, and did not buy but one set of tires in those Blizzaks for it so they do last. Keep in mind though you have to have winter and summer tires if you want to run Blizzaks because of how soft they are.

Snow tires
I just bought a set of 4 Dunlop SP Winter Sport 3D tires from Tirerack. I had a set of 18" Fanblade rims I had replaced because of "curb rash". I decided rather than throw them (my old rims) away, I would put winter tires on them and keep my new Fanblades with Michelin Pilot Sport tires just for summer. Since I drive my GT all year round, and we do have snow here in Ohio, I'd have a safer car, my Michelins would last longer and I'd keep the salt off my good rims. I read all the reviews on Tirerack and the Dunlops seemed like the best snow rubber to go with. The 235 50 18 Dunlops look like a heck of a winter tire.

I think I'm going to purchase some snow tires for winter. Does anyone know if 225/55-17 tires will fit the regular ol' 17" wheels on my 2008 Mustang GT?
It looks like I can get some Firestone Winterforce 225/55R17s for 82 bucks each via TireRack. I would hope they would be more than adequate...I live in Virginia and we rarely get snow and usually no more than 2"-3" if that.

If your snow gets that deep you won't be going anywhere despite great snow tires and sandbags. Nor does the Stang make a good "plow", either. For the price of decent tires and wheels (to keep your "good" wheels good), you may as well buy a beater.

Well, when I say 2-3" I mean that's what the snowfall amounts are. Not that I will be DRIVING in 3" of snow. The roads will be plowed, etc. So all I need to deal with is the residual junk.
