Because the S197 chassis was designed from the start to be a convertible, the coupe body is very stiff. The only cases in which subframe connectors are necessary are extremely high-horsepower race applications. So, in order to see any real benefit, you have to be pushing the car well beyond the limits of even most track applications. A front strut bar is even considered superfluous.

That being said, should you feel the need for subframe connectors, I can't say which are better. But I can tell you that they NEED TO BE WELDED IN.

I'm ordering the BMR boxed ones myself next week. If you're interested in an opinion once they're installed I can get back to you when they're in. There is certainly a benefit to installing them. This chassis is one of the stiffer ones but it's still got a tremendous amount of flex. What mods do you have done to your car?

^^^ according to who?

My 93' Cobra has a full road race cage, full length connectors, and a strut brace and STILL rattles and creaks more than my S197 (which is not at all)

This chassis is 70% stiffer than the previous one. Less than 1% of people need them on an S197 - much less anyone on this forum. Road racing puts considerably more stress on the body than drag racing. Unless you are pushing upwards of 800hp or something like that they are a waste of money. If we are talking about a convertible I would for peace of mind I suppose.

I'm not sure which part of that you're asking about my source for.

Where do you get your basis for saying less than 1% of people need them?
Where's your basis for saying you don't need them until you're upward of 800HP?
Ford only claims the chassis to be 31% stiffer in torsional rigidity so I'm not sure who told you it's 70% stiffer but it seems like a contradiction to the people that sell the car.

Every car that I've had that has a cage and frame ties does rattle and creak more. Thats part of stiffening it up. Your S197 doesn't make as much noise because of the flex and the nice soft bushings.
