Help with suspension
ok, so i was looking at the roush suspension but several members have said i could get more for the same or less if i mix and match. so im asking for some help with getting the most out of about $1500 in suspension parts. im looking at adding a turbo or supercharger later this year, and i may take it to the drag strip or maybe even a road course. any help is appreciated.
The conventional wisdom is that you can put a better package together yourself than buying a "kit" from a vendor. The minimum parts you need to *properly* lower and change the handling of your car, keeping your future FI plans in mind, are:
Springs - which ones depend on the drop you are looking for and how firm of ride you can tolerate. The Eibach Pro springs are very popular, but so are many others.
Dampers - there are really only two choices here: Tokico D-Specs or Koni Sports. The Konis are a bit more $ but many think they are worth it. Don't cheap out in this area, spend the bucks to get either of these.
Adjustable PHB - multiple choices, its hard to pick one over another (its a pretty simple part), based on price alone take a look at the UMI bar. I have the Spohn bar and its worked perfectly. Regards bushings - usually poly/poly or even better poly/rod end if you can tolerate a very, very slight increase in NVH.
Lower Control Arms - same deal, tons of choices with no *real* differences for the most part. Its a good idea to get adjustable for the ability to adjust pinion angle of the differential if needed. For high horsepower applications its ok to go with poly/poly bushings but poly/rod would be my choice.
Camber bolts - you might need them, some do, some don't - depends on the drop.
LCA Relocation brackets - drag cars like them, road track cars don't. I'd advise to hold off on them until you have the other parts installed and then see if you need them. They can help you hook-up (high anti-squat) at the drag strip but can cause roll oversteer (why is my rear end passing me?) in the twisties. Best compromise is to have the LCAs mounted parallel to the ground and reloc brackets with adjustability can help you get there.
You should be able to put a package like that together for under 1500.
I use to live in Aloha and work in Beaverton. You guys are having a heck of a winter eh?
