Default Brake Pads for a Daily Driver?

Hey guys,

Need to replace my brake pads, both the front and rears. So here's what I am working with:

- '06 GT auto vert
- Daily driver during the summer months (stored in the winter)
- 18" x 8" Chrome Foose Nitrouse Wheels
- Pirelli P-Zero Nero tires
- Saleen Stage 2 Supercharger installed by Brenspeed 412 RWHP and 412 Torque
- BMR GT Billet Lower Control Arms

I need some recommendations as far as good pads to get. I drive it pretty hard, so I want something decent. Who knows I may take it to a road course this year...but I do not want pads that make a ton of noise either.

Let me know what you think.

Thanks,

Nick

I went with the Carbotech Bobcat 1521 street pads because all of their pads are the same compound and I can switch to track day pads without changing out the rotors. They recommended XP10 front and XP8 rear pads for track days.

However if you don't plan on doing track days on a regular basis they might be too expensive. I try to ignore the price - actually I don't know what they cost as I've only bought one set of the Bobcat pads so far.

It depends. I have used HPS, HP+ and the "Blues". The Blues are not for the street so I'll leave them out of this discussion.

HPS = quiet, very little dust
HP+ = noisy and dusty

I'm using Hawk HPS pads. Switched to them after baking my stock pads at my first track day. The Bobcats are supposedly really good street pads, but they're at least twice as expensive as the HPS pads. You can get the front and rear HPS pads for less than just the front Bobcats.

If you do get to where you're changing pads for track days, spend $80 on an extra set of track rotors and take an extra 2 minutes per wheel to change the rotors out as well so you aren't driving on warped rotors during the week.

I have a friend with the Hawk Ceramic pads on his GTO and he loves them. Switched to them from HPS. They're really smooth with good intial bite, minimum fade, and silent... but they dust a bit more than the HPS pads, so you gotta expend some effort keeping your wheels clean.

If you want something more aggressive for the street (if you want to do track days fairly often), you can get the HP+ Hawk pads. They are more noisy, dusty, and take longer to heat up, but are supposedly liveable with on the street and provide a more track oriented pad for the street... these are still not a "track pad", just a much more aggressive street pad.

I haven't done a track day on the HPS's yet, so I can't give any feedback there, but hopefully will soon.

nice, i guess i'll look into some hps pads if they're relatively quiet and not so dusty.

I'm running Ferodo DS2500 on the front (GT500 brake kit) and Hawk HPS on the rear. The Ferodo's squeal on light braking when coming to a stop on the street.

Both produce about the same amoount of dust on the street and track.

Going to try EBC Yellowstuff this season.

I have HPS pads on two other cars, one of which is my wife's DD and the other which gets only occasional use but is autocrossed.

Quiet, yes.
Dusty, maybe a little more than the OE pads, but only a very little.
