Default Rear Sway Bar Addition

My buddy and I just bought some GT rear sway bars from V6mustangs.com... supposedly these come with all the brackets, but not the nuts/bolts. A stop by Ford told us the bolts we need are another $190... anybody have a better alternative to spending that kind of cash at Ford? I'm sure someone else has run into this....

$190 for bolts? That's ridiculous. Ask them what size nuts and bolts they are and go get some Grade 8 hardware.

go to a hardware store and bring the sway bar and brackets with you and put together a heavy duty grade 8 kit. i bet it costs less that $20 for both of you.

Well, the hardware store was exactly what we (my buddy and I) thought. I was just wondering if anyone else put a GT swaybar on a V6 and what they did for bolts... taking the brackets is a great idea, thanks. If anyone who has put one of these babies on, let me know your story!

Well, I haven't done a V6 to GT sway bar swap; but I just upgraded the bars on my GT. The only thing special about the GT bolts is that they have little brackets that hold them in place in the shock mount and thereby align the D-bushing bracket. All you'll need to make your setup work is 4 bolts, 8 washers and 4 nylock nuts (or regular nuts w/ split washers) - all grade 8. The only added inconvenience you have by not having the oem hardware is that you'll have to unbolt the bottom of the shock to get access to the bolts to hold them in place while you tighten the nuts.

Hope this helps,
Edward
