Anyone Run 275/45/18's??

Well, you guys are telling me what is recommended, I am telling you what fits and works. The 275/40's on my 17x8 wheels on my new edge fit, drove, looked and hooked well.
Will these 275s that I just ordered work any better than 255s, probably not. The extra weight may even slow me down a tad...that doesn't keep guys from putting 20's on their cars. They are going to be a much higher quality tire than the stock 235's that are on the car now, and I got them for basically half the price of retail.

BB - IMHO as mentioned in ur other thread, I think you'll be fine, additionally IMHO the reason ur not seeing a lot of cars with this size is purely cost. They tend to run much more $ then 235 or 255 tires.

275/40/18 are $196.00. Just curious, Do you consider $31.00 diff "much more" ??

Don't forget that I said that your current situation - 275/45 on 8.5 - is OK.
It's not as simple as that. Sure, you can mount them up and they'll hold air. Maybe they'll even work decently at the dragstrip. For a car that only drives to and from the local strip, that's one thing. But that does not make it a good recommendation for the full range of driving use/conditions, which is what this all becomes if you don't mention any limits that your own personal use do not exceed.
The worst thing about publicly defying Tire & Rim Association tire/wheel recommendations is that there will be people reading such posts who will absolutely believe that wide tires on too-narrow rims is a proper thing to do in all cases. "Hey, I redd itt on the Intarweb, it must be troo".
It's not.
You may understand and perhaps have a feel for the risks involved, but I'll bet money that any number of lurkers reading it do not.
Sure, you can define driving conditions where it would be unlikely that problems would arise. It's equally possible to identify driving that would almost guarantee trouble, at least eventually.
With respect to rear tires, mounting them on way-too-narrow wheels gives you less margin against oversteer/spinning out. Not everybody copes with this sort of vehicle behavior very well. Or is willing to band-aid this problem by adding another - I'm thinking no-grip skinnies up front here, just to help the front let go of its grip before the rear comes unstuck.

275/40 =/= 275/45. The cheapest 275/45/18 on tire rack is $229. I consider $64 per tire much more, especially since this is just the cheapest tire they stock in that size.

Exactly my point!!!

Speaking of the extra heft factor I went from 255/35 front and 275/35 rear to 275/40 front and 305/35 rear and it felt like I upgraded the suspension I had so much additional grip through the turns. I won't even get into how much more rear traction they provided. It was night and day. I'll gladly give up the weight.
However.. I went from a front 255/35 on 20'' rims that weighed 3 pounds more per wheel than the 275/40 on 18'' rims and rear 275/35 with 20'' rims that weighed 2 pounds more per wheel than the 305/35 on 20''s. So I dropped weight and gained a great deal of traction.
275's with a 40+ series sidewall should do fine on a 8-8.5'' rim IMO.

I forgot to post up...I got the tires in and on the other day.
I freaking love them...they fit/look awesome, and grip a lot better than the stock Pirellis or BFGs. I swear the car feels a lot stronger now, probably because of the better traction.
I'll get pics eventually, but it has been raining nearly every day and doesn't show any sign of stopping anytime soon
