Question Lowering tips?

Going to be changing the stock front and rear springs on my '06 Mustang out with the FRPP Progressive springs on Monday. I've read Taco Bills DIY thread and was wondering if you fellas have any further hints, tips, or secrets to making this an uneventful experience? Is this task something a moderately skilled wrench can perform?

Thanks.

as long as you take your time and dont half a$$ anything, you will be just fine. it can be intimidating dealing with the front springs and compressing them, but just make sure your spring compressor is set up right and you will have no problems.

My advice is to double check the torque on every nut and bolt.

As a tech., I am always extremely cautious when working on suspension and brakes. It's one thing not have an engine running right, but it's another thing entirely not being able to stop or steer.

It also a good idea to use Blue Loctite on all fasteners when doing the reassembly. The Ford manual say to discard most of the fasteners as they are "one time use" but most people seem to be reusing the old fasteners.

+1 on double checking all of the torque settings.

I think that Ford just wants to be cautious as the bolts MAY stretch from being reused, and SOME of the nuts are tapered (aircraft style) which also CAN stretch.

I use loctite as well, as Sleeper_08 also stated.

It's not that difficult and get's easier each time you do it (I've swapped three sets of springs in and out). The first time it took me about 3 hours, second time around 2 hours and now I can do the job in an hour and a half on jackstands. Make sure to pick up a bungee if you don't have one lying around the garage. I tied my spindle up once the strut was broken free and that was time wasted. This is the easy way .

You don't even need a spring compressor. I just installed the Eibach pro kit last weekend. You can just use your jack as the spring compressor. I saw it done on horsepower tv and here's a quick video explaining it. I did it in under 2 hrs.

And I didn't need to disconnect the tie-rod. Another thing, the top strut nut did not come off with the impact..it just spun the whole shaft. I had to use the 21mm and a 10mm to take it off.

I have next to no wrenching skills and I did my front/rear in ~3 hours. FRPP as well.
