Default Rear Shock Install

I just got a suspension kit from CDC. I have already installed the rear lowering springs, but have run into a problem with the rear shocks. I can't seem to get the rear shocks off. Everytime I try to loosen the top bolt, it spins the entire shock. How did/do you guys manage to get the rear shocks off?

I think you're referring to the top nut right? Typically, there's a flat piece on the stem to grab (to help loosen the nut).

Other times, you can grab the top body (not the case with the plastic covers on the stock shocks)

Yeah there is a small bolt on top you can hold, if I remember correct it was a 7mm, then loosen with the rest. It is a two wrench job to get the rears loose and out.

The shock's 'stem' has wrench flats at the very top of it. Grab that with one wrench, turn the nut with another. It'll turn a little stiffly at first. I used a small (probably a 6") Crescent wrench on the flats and an open end wrench on the nut. Less than a minute per upper shock attachment.

Thanks for the help. I'll see if I can get it to work.

Exactly- that's what I was trying to say- couldn't think of the term 'flats'.

I got them on today. I borrowed a friend's "shock" socket to get them off.

heartinacage, I am about to swap the rear shocks, could you please describe how you did it? Its my first time on a Mustang. Did you lift both wheels up? Or just one at a time? Used a jack under the axle? I dont have the manuals...

Drive the car up on ramps. Leave it in 1st and set the parking brake. Block at least one front tire so that the car cannot roll either forward or backward.
