Default Best DR rim/tire combo?

Whats the best size to run at the track, with the stock front tires in place?

looking for the best that money can buy.

Making only 385ish whp w/my Vortech V3 non-intercooled. The 4.10s/auto are vicious off the line with my stock rubbers. Need something that will grip hard and cut me some 1.8s or less in the 60 ft. right now they hover from 2.0-2.5(!)

"best" is such a relative term - all depends upon your set up and the track conditions as to what the "best" set up is on a given day.

On my car, I currently run a Mickey Thompson ET drag radial in 255-50x16 size mounted to a set of wheels from a base 2005 Mustang V6. It hooks pretty good, decent size of sidewall and grip from the MT's is very good.

I am changing out to a 17" wheel this year and going with a 275-40x17 but don't know yet if I will stick with the MT ET or go with the MT ET Street or the new Nitto NT05R.

sounds like a decent sized tire. I need traction desperately.. trying to get into the low 12s. My mods should get me there.. I just need sticky tires!

When car was street driven, had M&H DRs...nice soft rubber....good traction on prepped surface. Think tires were 325s on 17s 10.5 deep dish. Remember though, more sticky the tires, the less efficient at evacuating water. So something like M&Hs not recommended for wet road surfaces. My car had very little street use back then, maybe 20 miles per week.

it's all good.. I will be swapping out my street tires for the DR set up at the track. I desperately need some traction off the line. I only have about 385whp, but with 4.10s and super short gears 1-3, I need all the traction I can get!

Trying to hit a 12.0 with the mods I have right now on some DRs...

Vortech V3 non-intercooled 8 psi
FRPP 4.10s
JBA shorty high heat coated
delete plates
dual 3 inch exhaust cut outs

and the DRs/17s, lower control arms, relocation brackets, 3k stall torque converter.

I have witnessed many old school big block V8s (full interior, street cars) trapping a meager 100-103mph while running 12.0s, but their drag slicks/skinnies up front, leave me feeling envious and tired of seeing their tail lights lulz.. of course, they also have about 100 more lbs. of torque than I do off the line.

I called about the first link, $649 one, and they said they dont have access to those stock wheels anymore.

The ones you want to purchase look great but $1650 for the combo is a lot of $ for a race only setup.............but its a nice one.

Yes it is expensive, I want consistent 12.99 or better 1/4 mile times (without FI yet), run lots of 13.3's now, the rims should take .2 off, the rear tires another .1 or more over my current Mickey's, I also looked into getting the wider rims for the front so I can run them on the street also. Still need to get a quote to get my current rims (have 6 of the "Fan Blades" so Mickey's are on their own pair) widened to 10" so they will hold the rear tires as this might be the cheapest solution, but they are not as light as the Race Star's.
