Properly greasing Roto-Joints?
Does anyone have experience with properly greasing UMI's Roto-Joints? I know that to grease the fluted poly bushings you have to remove them or loosen them from the brackets to avoid hydraulic lock. When I tried to grease the Roto-joint on my PB off the car I was only able to get one pump before hydraulic lock. Just what is the proper way to grease a Roto-Joint to assure full grease coverage?
EDIT: After further reading over on the Chevy boards, I think I have an answer to my own question.
Even though UMI says in the instructions that the Roto-joints do not come pre-greased and you must grease them before using. They apparently do come pre-greased. They also have very little play as they come adjusted. If you try to force 2 pumps into the zerk, you will likely blow the seals out. The UMI instruction sheets appear to be incorrect, they also incorrectly state the size for the torx plus fuel tank strap bolts as a t47 on their UCA instruction sheet. The fuel tank strap bolts are a TP50. UMI might consider updating their instructions! Beyond this issue, I am still befuddled over how a person can grease the Roto-Joint properly when there is no path for new grease to flow through the bearing and displace the old grease, as in a fluted bushing design.
