What are these cast steel parts attached below my axle.

What problem is ford solving by adding them?

When upgrading the suspension do we remove them?

 

They are there to dampen harmonic noise.
Some cars have them some don't, mine didn't.
Take them off and see if you notice any differance.
I've read other threads where they take off with no problem,
to save weight for racing and to install arm relocation brackets.

I'd leave them. They're there for a reason and seriously...what's a couple pounds on the rear unless you're a hardcore racer clawing for that last 1/100th of a second?

 

Interesting...mine is an '08, and it does have 'em. Maybe Ford started puttin em on in late '08?
If they are really needed, wonder why some stangs have em and some not?? The rear ends are all the same. I don't get it. Also, mine are different size and shape than the one in those pics...

 

I removed mine noticed no difference. I heard they were put on 3.73 rear end cars for harmonics. They are unsprung weight the lighter the better.

Mine has them.

I met someone last weekend at a carshow that removed them from his GT500 and told me I should do the same....he was very big into shaving weight. He told me that he had already shaved around 400lbs off his car.
