My friend lowered his mustang, but didn't get an alignment because it tracked straight and he thought it was good enough. Couple months later he was stranded when the insides of the tires were worn so bad that the left front blew out.
It seems to me you could take some measurements from known good reference points on the car and determine whether your control arms are roughly the same shape. Like from the sway bar mount to the ball joint. I would also take measurements to the steering arm of the spindle (where the tie rod connects). If you're having trouble with toe, it's certainly possible you bent something on the spindle.
