I managed to get held of this little device:

I guess that is what I need to (re)program the sensors.

I have 3 sets of rims with no TPMS sensors and just drive my 08 with the sensor light on.

So, just to get this straight before I spend the money: When replacing a sensor, you must also purchase a Tpms Sensor Training Tool to reset/slave the new TPMS to the factory computer?

I recently busted a TPMS when changing tires (Yes, I am a ham-fisted hack mechanic) and am about to order a new TPMS to replace what I broke. But I must also spend $50 on the Training Tool? FML.

It's either buy the tool yourself (which you'll then have in your box for the next time), pay somebody else to train the new sensor(s) for you (each time), or just do nothing and ignore the lights/warning messages.

You can't disable the system, but unless having it show a fault gets you failed for state inspection there is no legal requirement to pay any attention to it either. AFAIK.
