need new brakes
Im looking for new brakes but dont want to spend 3k for them. Im considering the shelby stock brembos or the baer gt kit. They cost about about the same ($1250). Which ones are better? The baer come with slotted rotors which add to the overall look of the stang.

Does his make a big difference?

What problems are you experiencing that you expect the new brakes to solve?
I mostly want somethig that looks good, but also want it functional. If i get the brembo shelbys and compromise the slotted rotors, thats fine if they are better at braking. If i go with the slotted baers i would also buy the slotted rear rotors to match the front. The brembos are four pistons vs the baer two pistons , how much of a difference is that going to make? I couldnt find any threads that talk about the baers either to get additional input.
Sleeper hit it on the money.
However, in my honest opinion, the stock brakes on the S197s do remarkably well as long as you upgrade to a set of pads reflective of the environment you're driving in. The only reason for me to recommend upgrading anything but pads is if someone is consistently driving at high speeds and needs to stop on a dime...and those are usually track guys. Just my opinion.

I think you could accomplish the same objectives by better pads, fluids and stainless steel lines. The looks issue could be resolved with a set of caliper covers or painting the stock ones. Pads, Fluid, Brake Lines, and the covers are a heck of a lot cheaper.
Like the others said - its the tires that stop the car, not the brakes. The limiting factors for street use are NOT the stock calipers - its the pads and tires.
You can't find much on Baer because they aren't used extensively on Mustangs. Brembos on the other hand are very common and by and large the folks who have them love em. Of the few folks I know who have the Baers I would say they are not all that happy with them when used in race conditions. The main problem seems to be crappy rotors. But for street use they would be fine. So take your pick.

With any BBK you need to make sure that your wheels will clear the larger calipers and rotors.
