Default How To Sometimes Not Improve Things

This is an interesting series of articles that show how mods, e.g. brake "upgrades" can sometimes result in worse performance than the stock performance.

Granted the base vehicles they were working from are at a higher starting point than a Mustang.

I wouldn't read too much into the differences in the numbers. They're small and you'd never know the difference from the braking zone through to mid-corner. The launch through the exit would be another matter entirely.

The brakes have been upgraded as well, as the folks at GReddy installed Top Secret’s Big Rotor Kit front and rear. Although pedal feel has improved, we would probably forgo this $2560 option because stopping distances didn’t improve. The GR43 needed 4 ft. more than the GT-R Premium to stop from 60 mph, and needed an another extra 4 ft. (195 ft.) to stop from 80
What makes me laugh is that the author seems surprised that the "top secret" BBK didn't improve stopping distances. Duh...BBKs are not about shorting stopping - they are all about better "feel" (which apparently the author did "get") and better heat management.

Why does everyone falsely assume that bigger brakes are about stopping faster, rather than heat endurance and management? Erik

Not stopping faster but just more controllable
and more consistant at the track where they
get used abot every 15 seconds on average
to remove the massive amounts of kinetic
energy that the engine is producing...

Add OEM S197 ABS to the mix and it all goes out the window
