Front spring removal
I would suggest a long combination wrench to use with a cheater bar possibly. Use the closed end on the center strut nut so you can use a rachet/wrench with the right size allen to hold the shaft from spinning. Ideally two people, one person pushing the wrench in the correct direction (lefty loosey) the other holding or pushing the rachet in the opposite direction.

If you are very careful I could see this working out well. When I put springs on my '02 GT I basically did the same thing. Doing it this way WOULD make it much easier to remove the strut cap bolt, which was difficult with the strut/spring removed from the car.
An impact for the spring compressor was by far the easiest way to use the compressor. I did the first spring with a 1/2" hand ratchet, it took forever to get the spring compressed. After that I was comfortable enough to use the impact on the compressor, it took it from a 15 minutes job to a 60 second job.

Using the nut and threads on the strut to
compress the new springs will possably gall
and damage the threads to a point where
they will never come apart again. The threads
were not designed to compress the spring,
just to hold the assembly together...
