Default What makes a better corner?

Hey guys the other day I took my friends 96 vette for a spin. I noticed when cornering if feels really flat and sticks nicely. You can also power slide through the corners with so much control. Im pretty noob when it comes to car stuff. I have an 08 gt and it feels much more boat like. Is it just the big weight difference? Whats involved it making it feel better going through corners and giving it the ability to slide with more control? Im guessing maybe lowering springs and shocks would be a good start.

Thanks for your help,
Kevin

I'm sure lower center of gravity and weight distribution have an impact. What kind of suspension did he have?

For yours, yeah, getting better shocks/struts with some lowering springs would help. I'm sure someone will come along and make better suggestions, but what are your goals? Are you auto x-crossing or just looking for better street performance?

for starters the vette feels that way b/c its a vette

its low, sleek, and very light. with a bit more power than the lt1 camaros.

your 08 gt however, should handle better. i would think. Its probably just because your sitting higher up and the car is shaped much different. the view is different.

But with a aftermarket suspension setup would fix your problem.

shocks, struts, different tires, etc . have fun !!

His vette is all stock. I figured alot of it was probably weight. Id like to take my car a few times a year to a nearby road course. but I do drive it daily. However im young I can deal with a bumpy ride, as long as I can get in and out of most driveways lol.

What would a nice shock/spring setup cost?

it depends on the brand and setup. i think around 1k would definatly get you a really good setup.

but look around you may want to do even more suspension work after you start.

look up brands like Strano and Koni and see what they have for mustangs. I know they have stuff for you guys as well as the f-bodies and vettes

1K in suspension and you will no doubt handle much much better.. However, your 08 should out handle a stock C4.. To take this wrong but I think you're imagining it handles better because your sitting lower and also hugged into the seat a bit better... In the 08 your body floats and makes it feel like the car is floating, however you can pull some pretty decent g's in an 08..

You'll probably also want sway bars.

Your probably right. The floating feeling to me makes it feel like im losing control of the car.

Definitely and upgrading the suspension will help the car feel more stable and help you feel more in control.

I would start with something like springs, dampers, adjustable panhard bar, and F/R swaybars.

Let me know if I can setup a package deal for you.

Hard to do better than a good Steeda set up. You would out handle most cars on the road.
