S197 Shelby SectionThis section is for technical discussions pertaining specifically to the latest installment of the Shelby Mustangs; the Shelby GT, the CS6, and the awesome GT500.
I only have 1200 miles on my GT 500, but I know when the first service comes up I'll be replacing the air filter. I'm not interested in retuning the car, but don't want to ever have to buy another air filter. I've used K&N's on ever car I've owned since about 1999 and have been very pleased with them. This car, however, is different. I'd like the looks of a cai to add to the engine compartment, but I like the idea of a drop-in that requires little else. Is there a cai that does not require retuning the car?
does the WMS ram air style, the front end straight in TB style, apply to the GT500? its a good concept and heard good things on the GT's with it, and its a no-tune setup, just an idea and looks good too
The GT500 needs a tune with the CAI's no matter what type you use.
Yes, absolutely do not run a CAI without a tune. K&N will tell you it's OK to run their CAI without a tune..DON'T BELIEVE IT! They will not replace your engine when you put windows in your block. Drop-ins are a different story...no problems there because you're not changing the MAF housing.
yes, any CAI that can give increased performance will need a tuner.
There are several drop-in reusable filters available for the GT and V-6. I don't know if the GT500 takes the same ones.
