Default Maximum boost

Hey guys, I just bought a gt500 last weekend (Woot!) and I'm sure this question has been asked a lot but I can't find it using the search function.

What is the maximum boost/hp our stock bottom end will stand up to?
Same question for the tranny, driveshaft and rearend. Anyone care to educate the newb to the glory that is the gt500?

I believe that you can up the boost to 16 psi before the stock blower is no longer efficient.....many tuners have had the stock internals (which are forged) last on as much as 850+ RWHP which is over 1000 BHP with an excellent tune....check out July of 09 5.0 Mustang and Super Fords......Evolution performance has a stg 6 GT500 and it is a beast...this package use the 3.4L Whipple at 18 pounds of boost and one hell of a tune on the stock everything (except LT's) and it made almost 800 RWHP and there were some suspension mods and rear diff mods to support the HP/TQ.....that is extreme but the block and internals I would not worry about

the trans should hold at least 600 RWHP/TQ and the DS should be changed to a one piece aluminum one.....

The rear diff as long as you dont slap Slicks on it and at the above power level the stock rear diff will hold for a while IMO......I would upgrade that too....35 spline axels and Detroit Tru Trac....

I might be getting a little ahead of what you want to get but I just love the GT500...congrats on the buy and many others will chime in....enjoy..

Thanks, that's been pretty helpful. I love this car and unfortunately the mod bug has already bitten. I'm not ready to do anything crazy with it yet, but I'm just curious what vast possibilities are awaiting me with this 3900 lbs of crafted steel and sex appeal!

as you hear everywhere...its all in the tune......a good tune and you can be pushing the stock internals over 900 rwhp in the right setup...now of course to get there you have to make allot of other mods etc. the stock eaton is a heating unit. and it builds up allot of heat...you may achieve 16lbs of boost with a lower and upper pulley change but you will be spinning that little thing more than you want to and building up the enemy of any engine ..HEAT...IMO if you are looking for more that just an upper pulley change of about 13lbs of boost at max (avg of 11.5 with heat / power loss) then you need to look into a supercharger upgrade...the good thing about the gt500 is there are allot of REASONABLE supercharger upgrades out there..depends on what you are looking for. most installs seem pretty straightforward and easy as well and something that I will eventually tackle down the road...start out with a CAI...then do the pulley change or do all the same time...dont forget to drop that beeyatch....change your weaker suspension links like the UCA and LCA's...Panhard bar etc....then you can change to the upgraded intercooler and larger heat exchanger unit....then if you want more power look into saving that cars internals with some better breathing. Headers will be needed and should be 1 7/8 for 700+ rwhp to help the engine be more efficient. overall you can do allot to these beasts, but just plan it out..plan your budget, your goals etc....good luck to you

thanks so much for that info, I might be changing superchargers in the future. For now, I'm going to stick to suspension and maybe a CAI. I need to just figure out how to use the power she's making right now. If (come on, it's more like when) I get too comfortable with that, then I will move on.

You can replace the top blower pulley pretty quick and get 4 lbs. of boost w/ a tune and CAI would be about 100+ hp over stock. Post a message if you want the link. I know a guy who recently tried 4 pulley kits before he found one that worked well.

I am a huge fan of Justin at vmptuning.com 2.65 pulley and tune setup. that and I love the FRPP CAI for its factory look. Just note that the main CAI are pretty much the same. Justin has tested all the big names out there and really the difference in RWHP gain is well within the margin of error for dyno pulls. another words you will always read how someones CAI is better than someone elses and it really comes down to whose you like the look of more..they are all equal as far as performance goes.....good luck with your choice and your modding futures.
