The FRPP PROCAL tunes are CARB certified. To change (update) them they would have to pay for all the testing again. I've read that the cost for CARB testing is something in the 200K range.

Finally!! Thanks for the Info!! There are no aftermarket canned tunes for the FRPP cai, I guess that would mean a custom tune?

VMP Tuning offers calibrations for many of the popular GT500 cold air intakes including the FRPP CAI.

Actually EVO and VMP both make a tune for the GT500 using the FRPP CAI. I used an EVO tune for my FRPP CAI and was not that impressed. The ProCal tunes are based on 91 octane. If you only have 91 octane available in your area then buying an afermarket tune will not provide that much additional HP. If you have 93 octane available then the aftermarket tune will help some because they can bump the timing a few degrees.

If you are looking for a significant increase then you will need to install a smaller pulley to the supercharger and the associated tune for either 91 or 93 octane.

with the smaller pulley you don't have to upgrade any cooling component.

I will say though that I recently took my gt500 to the strip for the first time...and the amount of heat soat these cars have is insane. I thought that it wouldn't be as bad as everyone said...but it's worse! I'm planning on cooling upgrades as my next round of mods because it will help the long running performance as much as any other mod I can get!

You mean the guage was running close to red or loss of power due to the pcm cutting back timing because of overheating the cat potential??

I'll have to disagree. FRPP tunes are based on 93 octane. (I called and asked when I was getting some knock.) That's why there's the octane adjust feature in the pro cal.
