I'm 55 Y.O. and still within the first 4 months of buying the '09 GT500. My insurance went up about the same as above, actually $54.00 - someone did a hit and run on my '08 GT, so my insurance went up a little because of that. @sshole slammed into the side of it at the pool hall while I was playing in a 9-ball league. ($3500 damage)

The GT was a GT500 clone with a 4.6L. It got about 20-21 MPG, and now I get about 15-18 in the GT500 depending how deep I get into it. I agree with the sweet sound of the FR500S mufflers and the S/C whine! I also have the ProCal Tuner, FRPP CAI, and FRPP Short Throw Shifter. Love It!

You guys think just like I do..

Yes, I love building cars, and was looking forward to the pleasure of heavily modding my 08 GT, but...

There is NO sense in dropping over 10,000 in my GT when I can have an 09 GT500 less than 40K and it already has what I want. Forged internals, SC, 6 speed, front facia, etc....

even if I dropped a whipple on the stock GT internals, less than 500 HP would destroy a stock GT500 due to the weight advantage, but soon as you meet a modified one it's game over.

I had a '05 GT and averaged 19MPG. In my '11 GT500, I'm averaging 13MPG so far. But she's still new to me and the sound of getting into her is just soooooooo addictive. Driving more sedately might net me 15-17MPG average. Gotta remember, this is a 550HP car so fuel economy is gonna be bad, regardless.

As far as insurance, I was 34 when I got the GT. I was just turning 39 (literally just) when I got the GT500, so if I recall what my GT insurance was correctly, my premium is less on the GT500; that is until this recent speeding ticket (gotten in the 550i) hits my record.

Concerning mods, I'm wanting so badly to pull the trigger on that 750HP FRPP supercharger upgrade kit that I can hardly stand it! (And I'm 99.9% sure I'm going to do it.) I've been going over the budget w/ a fine toothed comb to make it work without feeling a deficit.

I had an 08 GT/CS, it was slow so I threw a Paxton on it and it still got good gas mileage. Was still too slow and got the gt500. MPG didnt really change til I got over 600rwhp. It averages about 14mpg and I race it quite a bit As for insurance, it went up about 5 bucks a month, but then again I'm old and a female.

Grabber, this is a curious question.

How would you compare the feel of power of your GT/CS with the Paxton H.O. versus the power of the GT500 in stock trim?

Now, compare the two again after you modded your GT500 to over 600 RWHP.

I will weigh in my opinion on that too if you don't mind... With my 05 with the saleen sc and 422 rwhp 416 torque it was incredible power over stock but just not enough... When I got my 08 gt500 and after it broke in I had roughly 443rwhp and similar torque . It felt faster than my other sc car but it felt a little sluggish and not as peppy w throttle response etc as my modded gt... However when I bought the ford racing air and tuner it really woke up and was like wow with the 480 rwhp or so.. Then with the new pulley and vmp tune i was up to 547 rwhp and 544 torque I was really blown away.. The throttle response was instant the power scary good and I felt it was time to get this power to the ground and handling to match.. So invested in suspension upgrades and she now turns on a freaking dime and hugs the road like she owns it.. But still wanted more so went withe new throttle body updated tune to get to current numbers... With my ported high flow plenum I will be over 600rwhp.. Which was my original goal.. All along my car is very streetable and I trust it... I always was slightly nervous with my modded gt as I always felt like I was living on borrowed time.. I know I wasn't but always felt that way... W my gt500 I feel like I am driving a car that was built to do what it's doing.. Faster, crisper... More power!!!!!! Unfortunately like any modder .. I STILL WANT MORE!!!!!
the madness will never end!!!!!
Get it and good luck with it!!!!!
