to be honest, screw getting a bone stock motor. I vote on a Aluminator or a B302 from Brenspeed.

with the blower you can lay down some serious HP...and they are both 100% direct swaps. http://www.brenspeed.com/engineinfo.html

that is what I plan on doing if/when I blow my motor

Horse beating time!!!!

When i made the choice to go with the GT 500 i looked at it this way.

New 2011 GT with all the options i wanted = 34K.

Loaded 2011 GT 500 with 3k miles and all the goodies = 47K.

To make the GT perform like the 500 it would most likely mean a SC and a few other goodies. Then your looking at another 6-7K on top of the GT that will also void the warranty ( i know thats a whole other discussion ). Then you have to add in things like suspension and styling if you choose. That can easily get another 1-2K in add ons. So the GT ends up being between 41-43K invested to make it perform like a GT 500. And yes its a better value but for me when i was younger my dream car was a shelby and it still is. Thats why i invested in one and i will most likely keep it until im old a gray and my grandchildren want to take a ride in an antique. So the moral is do whatever makes you happy, some are happy with getting a dream car others are happy with making their car from scratch. I plan to do both as i slowly add goodies here and there ( when my wife lets me ).

Tylus is right IMO. It will be cheaper to keep what you have and build on it. A forged engine + boost for a relatively reliable 450-500whp. If you want over about 450-500whp then you'll be in it for a transmission as well once you break the stock one.

If you pay someone else to do all your work including the new transmission you may someday need. It gets debatable. Then perhaps a used 07-09 GT500 would be a better deal. No engine or transmission work needed. And I've seen them go for 30-32K with less than 10,000 miles on them. Look on autotrader.

Yeah, I have often wondered about 1/2 million dollar cars to go fast in when for the same money one could buy something with wings which goes as fast and is safer and legal when doing so.

a nice Terminator will cost you $18-24k
best bang for the buck. hands down.
and a simple blower swap will get you a lot more bang.

but it sounds like you dont have your own mind made up yet.

I viewed it the same way. The GT 500 was a dream car for me. Once I had the means, it had to happen. My little '02 GT had to go.

I can't make up my mind, maybe I'll just get a Fiesta...

With flame stickers of course!!!

Come summer, I will make a move on something one way or the other. Thanks for all the opinions and advice.
