S550 USB Hub Electric Issue (2018 Mustang)
TL;DR
Carplay not working. Fuse ok, USB hub replaced with OEM still not working. Might splice the cig port connection to the USB hub power wire.
Good afternoon everyone.
I live in Houston, TX. I currently have my second Mustang Ecoboost, first was a 2016, current is a 2018.
My issue is with the USB hub carplay,
I replaced the USB as it was not working. The fuse #32 10amp is working fine. That didn't solve my problem.
I tried to use a voltameter but I'm not getting a current.
The vehicle is operating Sync 3.3 and every time it looks for an update it just stops, I've tried different wifi spots and my phone's hot spot but no luck.
I need the carplay to work since I use my nav and really enjoyed carplay when I had a challenger and silverado.
Here's what I want to do:
I want to splice the thin USB hub power and ground and jerry rig a connection to the 12v cigarette port that accompanies it.
However, considering how thin those wires are, I don't know if they would short the 10amp fuse.
I can't even find that fuse at Ford or at a stereo car store when I went, it is smaller than the mini blade fuse.
If it shorts then the screen or key recognition won't work (found out when I removed the fuse to check it).
I took the car to the dealer but they wanted me to leave it for 4 days without a vehicle to operate in the mean time, and want to charge me $200 just for the diagnostic even though the USB hub was replaced with OEM and the fuse was checked, so I told them to just check if power is going to the connection. But they refused.
Does anyone else have this problem or any ideas what else I could look at?
Thank you.
