Default How to tell if it is real...

Well after rechecking: my VIN is 1FALP46V9VF203630 and the original dealer (Freemont Ford) installed the SC before delivery.

Liz Summar @ Saleen, verified it as number 97-0240 Cobra Convertible based on the VIN that I gave her.

The Book, Must have a Typo.

Thank you,

Eric

You can breathe a little easier. Looks like it matches up for 01-0031 with the last 3 of the vin being 044.

Mike,
Yes and Yes!
I originally, was going to buy a coupe "over the hill" in California when I found Joyce's car! 11,900 miles showing with all of the original paperwork. Triple black speedster with the vortech. I fell in love!
When I did not buy it, my wife asked me if I wanted it?!? (She has been complaining about ALL of my cars, for years!) I said "any man with (synthetic) oil in his veins, would love to have it!" Then she said "then why don't you buy it?"
I love my Wife!!!!
We did a wire transfer, the next day.
As of yesterday, it has 17,290 miles on it.
Nothing like a drive around Lake Tahoe in a rag-top!
I do not even care what it is worth. NOT FOR SALE!

My '98 S281 was a similar story - originally pitched as "Factory Supercharged", when I did some digging it turned out it was "Dealer Supercharged" at Fremont Ford. Unfortunately the dealership were less than helpful (They changed hands I think, and stopped dealing with Saleens), and I couldn't get any paperwork to prove that it was a dealer-installed SC and not after-market. Not that it makes a huge difference anyway (and the aftercooler/battery relocation definately *were* aftermarket anyway).

And now I'm letting my '98 go *sigh*. But its not all bad - I'm trading it for an '08 S302E

I have aquired a 2001 Saleen. Vin # 1FAFP42X01F179071 S281 '01-0503.

What can you tell me about it? It appeared to have factory paint of red then factory repainted gold/grey color.

For 01-0503

Factory options were: Supercharger, tire upgrade with 10" rear wheel option, mats, and chrome wheel upgrade. Ship date of: 04/13/2001

Unfortunately the book does not list any details about paint color. Maybe someone here might know the story.

Also, post pics when you have a chance.

Mineral Grey would be a factory Ford color that displays the gold/grey characteristic you mention.

Please give more insight as to the clues you found that lead to the belief that the base chassis was once red.
