Watts link vs. MaxiGripâ„¢
I've ordered my new SC281 with the newly available Watts link rear suspension, as on the Parnelli Jones model.
The PJ, oddly it seems to me, does not have a limited slip differential. Perhaps this isn't useful on a competition car (or those modelled on them), but it seems an odd omission.
I've heard opined that the Watts link removes the need for a limited slip, but that doesn't seem right somehow: the Watts link is concerned with the lateral location of the rear axle, and the limited slip prevents too much speed difference between the rear wheels (as, for example, during hard cornering where the inside rear wheel might unload).
What do you guys think? MaxiGrip or no with the Watts link?

I don't know what the Watts link has to do with the LSD. The function of a Watts link is to keep the lateral movement to nil (as stated above) as well as allow proper articulation of axle without the binding of the tradtional 4 link Mustang rear suspension.
I guess the link would aid in keeping wheels well grounded in the event of turning under acceleration, but without LSD, tire spin on inside wheel (as stated) would occur anyway.

I can't imagine Saleen swapping out the LSD for a non-LSD. Where did you get your info?

On the stock Mustang GT, a 3.55:1 LSD is an option.
Saleen lists the "8.8 inch differential, 3.55:1 gear ratio" as the standard, with the 3.73:1 and 3.73:1 MaxiGrip as options.
Does Saleen start with the Ford 3.55:1 LSD? Or is the MaxiGrip the only LSD offered? If the former, sorry, and you can ignore this entire thread!

Call it LSD, or call it Posi Tract - whatever, both wheels have traction. Look at the pic above. Base Saleens and S-281SC's (not SC281 ) have the stock GT rear unless ordered with the MaxGrip. They both apply power to both wheels.
